Dreamy Cabin on the Skykomish River

Oh man, this place was such a treat! Just outside of Skykomish, Washington is this neat cabin right on the river. The walls are cedar and the whole place is just an awesome PNW vibe. I had the pleasure of staying during the spring months, my least favorite time of the year, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The host, Dan, is very informative and tells you everything you need to know to be warm and comfortable throughout your stay. There’s a full kitchen, a wood burning stove fireplace, vaulted ceilings, a large deck and a beautiful panoramic wall of windows that lets you feel like you’re immersed in nature the entire time.

The Skykomish River is a huge river the drains part of the Cascade Mountains. Dan’s cabin has a very large deck overlooking the river as well as a walkway so you can walk right down to it. I spent most of my mornings down by the river drinking my coffee and it was incredibly peaceful. The river, being quite large, is easily heard from inside the cabin. It was very soothing at night to go to sleep with the warmth from the fire and the sound of the water.

My favorite place to sleep in the cabin was the loft. There’s an incredibly comfortable king sized bed and large windows of the river so each morning I got to wake up with a view. Across from the bed you can see down into the living room and the vaulted ceilings and windows allow tons of natural light. We had tons of hiking to get to, but it was definitely nice to sleep in on some mornings reading my book and not wanting to leave the bed!

When I would finally get up and make my way down to the kitchen, it has everything I needed to make eggs and toast in the mornings and then take my coffee down to the river. It faces the living room and all of the windows so you can see outside while you make breakfast! We brought our own groceries as there isn’t many places nearby for quick food options, so it was easier to bring our own food and make sandwiches for hiking days. Which, I should probably mention, this area is COVERED with amazing hikes. We actually had planned to do several hikes that were quite far away, but even after staying here for a week and hiking every day, we still didn’t complete all the beautiful ones in the area. We did get the rental car stuck one time in the snow, but Dan leaves a shovel at the Airbnb for you. Sadly we had forgotten to grab it, so we were stuck for several hours waiting for help - take the shovel!

At night after long hiking days, we would come back, start the fire, and make dinner. There’s a full bathroom with a nice shower that gets plenty hot, which was quite luxurious compared to some of my other travels. After dinner we usually sat on the deck to see the stars or inside by the fire reading. There is a television, but we never needed it. It was such a peaceful and tranquil environment that it was more relaxing to listen to the sounds of nature outside.

Dan supplied the Airbnb with tons of great reading material about the area, including a book that had some really cool local hikes we ended up doing. Dan, and everyone else we met in the area, were all super friendly and had amazing tips and recommendations. The area felt very safe despite being quite remote.

If you’re interested in staying at Dan’s cabin, you can click here for the reservation page or to read more about it. If you do end up staying here, I can confidently say you’ll be quite pleased you did.

Happy trails!
